MOWING DOWN THE CALORIES!

If you are at all like I am, and find yourself out
with the lawnmower, then you know that getting
outside in the fresh air and sunshine is usually
pretty nice.

If you are also trying to lose a few pounds, you
may be interested to know that you can burn
off a significant number of calories just by pushing
that lawnmower around your yard for a while.

If you have enough yard that you can mow for
an hour, you will burn around 200 or so calories.
That's not bad for getting out in the sunshine.

Just make sure that if you are out in the sun, and
it is hot (even if it isn't) that you have water handy
to keep yourself from getting dehydrated.

Enjoy the summer time.

"Weighty" Costs

Did you know that obesity in the U.S. is approaching 40% for adults?
This trend toward gaining weight seems to continue its uphill swing.

Have you ever considered what it costs to be overweight?
There are direct and indirect costs.  Direct costs may include
such things as diagnostics and direct treatment.
Indirect costs relate more the the cost of morbidity (severity) of disease.

Health care costs associated with obesity are close to 100 billion dollars!
That's a lot of unnecessary financial fat.  It really doesn't take that much
to lose some weight.  It is also easier for some than for others.
The reason why more people do not want to get and stay on programs
is that it is easier not to.

I never had to lose hundreds of pounds, but I did choose to lose over 40.
That was over 37 years ago.  I have kept it ALL off to this day.

The only way to begin to lose weight - is to begin!
Start slowly and do a little more as you go.  It takes years
to get way overweight.  No one ever said you had to lose
100 pounds (or even 40) in a few weeks.

The Good Egg - White or Brown?

There has been some discussion about whether or not brown eggs
are better than white eggs.  It seems that it just depends upon
what kind of hen is doing the laying.

Here is the link to an article that discusses white vs. brown.
One other thing that I will mention, that is NOT mentioned
in the article, is that free range eggs can be better than
the others.  Not all free-range egg hens actually see the light
of day.  Just because a hen is fed from an organic feed, does
not mean it is free-range, just that the eggs can be considered
organic.

If the hens are able to eat bugs and some of the seed from
growing flowers and such, then these are truly free-range
hens.  Their eggs will be higher in Omega-3 and other
healthy nutrients.

Here's the link.

Enjoy,

Sleepless in?

WOW!  I never thought that this would work this well.
If you have trouble sleeping, or are just a "Tosser and
Turner", then do I have a help for you.

This is the second year that we have grown Chamomile.
It is now flowering and we have made tea with the
inner yellow bud.  The flower petals should be pulled
off and discarded.

This is the second time in a week that I have had the tea
from the fresh flowers.  It is almost like being drugged.
At first I wake up a bit groggy, but as soon as you get
up, you wake up.   It is really cool.  My brain also seems
to be recharged.  I seem to be able to think more clearly.
This is the general consensus of everyone with whom
I have shared the chamomile tea.

I have tried the Chamomile tea out of the box that you
buy at the supermarket, and it does nothing.  I also do
not like the way it tastes.  Fresh Chamomile works!
It is much, much better, and it really helps with getting
to sleep and staying asleep throughout the night.
At least this is how it works for my family and friends.

It is really easy to grow, and the seeds are inexpensive
and can be bought almost anywhere.   Try it.

Which Burns More Calories?

I was recently doing some research when I came across
this really interesting fact.

There are a lot of ways to burn calories.  Almost anything that
a person does will burn some calories.  It all depends upon
how long and how hard you do the activity.

The interesting thing that I noticed was that if you walk at
a fairly easy pace (about 3.5 mph) for one hour, you actually
will burn as many calories (or more) than someone who
lifts weights doing a general light workout will in the same
amount of time.

Now, I am an advocate of weight lifting (not necessarily
body building), because it helps to tone and strengthen
the muscles and also increases a person's ability to burn
calories more efficiently.  But, the next time someone
tells you that lifting weights is the only way to go, tell
them that walking is just as efficient at burning calories.
