Broken Promises

Okay, I messed up. I broke my promise to myself about
Thanksgiving. I was going to lose weight not gain it.
I was going to eat moderately, and not
overdue the calories. Didn't happen. I "Pigged out".

I now must decide what I want to do. Do I stop eating,
work out 10 hours a day, or just live with the extra
calories?

I am sure that this is the scenario of many of you out there.
This is not the first time that I have been in this
situation, nor will it be the last. So, here are some
things that I plan on doing to offset those extra calories.

1. I will move more and stick to my workout schedule.
Easy as this sounds, many people do not adhere to
their workout schedule. Most people do not even
have a workout schedule. If you are one of these
people, please sign up for the information to your right.
I will be able to send you further information about
some simple workout methods that are designed to
melt away some of those calories.

2. I will go back to my normal way of eating. my normal way
of eating is to be careful of my food intake. I tend to
drink water with my meals. The water fills me up as much
as the food. I try to balance the fats and carbs. If I
have a hard workout, I can afford a few extra carbohydrates.

3. I limit my time on the sofa or couch. I stay active and
maintain as much movement during the day as possible. The
more that a person moves, the more calories they will burn.
This is simple physics. There are proper ways to lose weight
and then there are those "fly-by-night" fads. Here is a link
to some very good programs.

Incredible as it seems, just these few suggestions will help
anyone to lose those extra pounds that have accumulated over time.

Take care everyone. Eat healthy and exercise.

"TURKEY TUMMY"

Well, are you going to be one of those individuals who cannot
control how much you eat? No need to be one. Here are a few
tips from my "Thin Within" that might help you zap that weight
before it starts.

First, you must pay attention to what you are doing. Most of
us (myself included) will just find themselves grabbing things
and putting stuff in the mouth (light bulbs, silverware, ...no,
not really). It is easy to do unconscious eating. So, make
sure you are aware of what you are putting in your mouth.

Next, ask yourself if you are really hungry or if you are
going to just make yourself more uncomfortable? Often, we eat
and are not hungry at all. Be prudent and drink some water.
Speaking of which, drink a glass of water about 30 minutes before
you eat. That will take that "edge" off of your appetite.
We often confuse thirst with hunger anyway. My major DO NOT
for this holiday - DO NOT DIET! They do not work anyway.
You can find out why by filling out the boxes to your right (upper
right of the main blog page).

Have a GREAT Thanksgiving.

Consider This -

As the Thanksgiving holiday comes around (for those who celebrate)
thoughts turn to spending time with friends and family, and there is
much ado about what to fix.

If you are this year's host and are inviting guests, you may want to
find out if there is anyone on this year's list who has compromised
health issues such as diabetes, restricted salt, or is simply on a diet.
This may cause a bit more work, but it is also possible to reduce calories,
salt, etc. and make the meal more healthy for everyone.

In many cases, you don't need as much salt (or any). You can often
substitute low-fat milk for cream and still come out with great-tasting
deserts. Check and find out what you can substitute when you know that
something is not going to be healthy for any of your guests.

Most hosts want to make sure that every guest comes away with a
smile on his or her face. Make your Thanksgiving a day that your guests
will smile about for a long time.

Don't be a Turkey on Turkey Day?

Well, like it or not, the holidays are again rolling around.
Where does the time go. The next one up is Thanksgiving,
just around the "corner".

What are you going to be thinking of between now and then?
Health, or how much can I eat? If you aren't that "Turkey"
you can do both. Eat, and eat healthy.

You have NO excuses if you are the one fixing the dinner.
If you you go to friends or relatives, you always have options.
I will go into this further in a future blog.

Cook and Lose Weight!

Wow! If you are on a diet, or simply trying to keep unwanted pounds off,
then there here is something to check out.

There are many times that I have wanted to cook something, but I was
not sure that it was healthy, or was going to help me keep my weight
in check. I came across a cook book that does the "thinking" (so to
speak) for you. It is not only a really good cook book, but the recipes
are geared towards weight loss.

This cookbook is really great. It is authored by a personal trainer and
kinesiologist who worked closely with nutritionists and doctors to develop
this information.

Check it out here.

To your right you will notice that you can get
FREE information that will help you to
stay focused and stay on your weight control plan.

Fun Weight Loss Parent-Child Activities

Greetings.
In my previous posting I mentioned that I would give you some activites
that will burn off some calories and be fun. Well, true to my word, here goes.

One really obvious thing that you can do is to find a park, trail, or nearby
sidewalk to take a stroll on and move those legs and swing your arms.
You can play games with your child like jumping over sidewalk lines,
or sticks on the trail, or even (a real challenge at this time of year) leaves
on the ground. While you are walking, you can talk about nature, or
about some of the changes that have taken place in the area, or simply
talk about what interests you and your child. The important thing is
to keep moving.

If you have difficulty getting outside, then you might try tossing a ping-pong
ball to each other. Normally, I would not encourage playing ball inside,
but a ping-pong ball has certain qualities that others do not. It is very
lightweight and is not going to break or knock anything over.
It is also difficult to catch, so there will be a lot of chasing the ball around
which amounts to a lot more calorie burning. You can also play "Hand"
ping-pong where you hit the ball to each other with an open palm. This is
even more challenging.

I hope that you liked these ideas. I am going to put together more of these
ideas so that you have them in one place rather than having to search
through a number of blog posts. You will be able to download them all in
one "click" of your mouse. I will keep you posted (no pun intended).

Until later,

Bob
